Celebrities who chose colourful wedding dresses
Celebrities are never a bunch for shying away from bold fashion statements, so it is no surprise that many of them have ditched the traditional stark white princess dress for a more colourful option. From lemon yellow to shades of black, colour is by far the best way to stand out.
The Big Bang Theory’s leading lady wore an unforgettable custom Vera Wang pink gown to marry Ryan Sweeting at their New Year’s Eve wedding. The dress, much like the marriage, didn’t last long as she swapped into a shorter red dress to dance the night away at her reception.
For her Memorial Day weekend wedding, The Newsroom star opted for a retro look with a short sleeve bright yellow vintage dress. She paired this period look with a bold red lip and tight curls and looked as happy as a sunflower on her big day.
The 90210 actress graduated to the big leagues in this Vera Wang black gown for her wedding to Josh Beech. She topped up the gothic image with brooch filled up-do and a dramatic red rose bouquet.
The Hollywood actress surprised the world when she deviated from her classic conservative style to don a puffy petal-pink Glambattista Valli gown. Jessica Biel edited the 2012 haute couture collection piece to make it more bridal by swapping the runway red colour to the delicate pink and reducing the size of the dramatic skirt. She kept her hair and make up to her usual look with a classic Audrey Hepburn inspired up-do, natural make up and a beautiful flowing veil, which fitted perfectly into her Italian surroundings for her wedding with now-husband Justin Timberlake.
This loved up off-beat couple celebrated their wedding out in the wild and Amber reflected the sunny backdrop with her marigold coloured gown. To add the brilliant oddness, the bride arrived in a canoe and walked up the aisle without any shoes on!
Dita Von Teese
The world class burlesque performer was every inch the show stopper in her indulgent Vivenne Westwood purple gown on her big day. She paired her corseted gown with a matching hat and netted veil and a lavish bouquet of cascading roses.
The ‘Milkshake’ singer married rapper Nas in 2005 in a very nontraditional green dress. She paired the look with a fur stole to keep her cosy on the cold night. Ironically, after the couple had divorced, Nas ended up featuring the iconic green dress on his album cover as an apology for the end of their marriage.
Sarah Jessica Parker
SJP is known for her style in ‘Sex and the City’ and in her first on-screen wedding to Big she wore an extremely dramatic Vivienne Westwood white ball gown with a huge peacock feather in her hair. For her real-life wedding to actor Matthew Broderick in 1997, she wore the first black dress she found on the rack so that people wouldn’t suspect that there was a wedding coming soon. To keep things on the down-low, the couple invited friends and family over for a classic NYC party and surprised them with the ceremony.
Oscar-winning Anne often keeps it low-key on the red carpet, but she clearly had a ‘Devil Wears Prada’ moment on her wedding day as she wowed in a Valentino Garavani blush-pink gown. To make the look even more fashion forward, Hathaway paired the dress with an elaborate lace head piece and a cathedral length veil.
