Centuries ago, the wedding dress was the best garment owned by the bride-to-be, but this all changed when Queen Victoria introduced the tradition of the white gown. Now the custom of wearing white is fading and brides have much greater choice. Colours are making a comeback as brides are beginning to opt for hues that suit them rather than submitting to the pressure of being “pure” in white. These days it is not even uncommon for brides to buy pre-loved gowns — after all, they are only worn for one day.
