Beatriz & Ricky: Gardens on Forest, 12th November 2010
  • Theme:

The theme of Beatriz and Ricky’s wedding reflected their different cultures: Peruvian and Hong Kong. By combining a range of elements and traditions from their different backgrounds, they aimed to show their families what they see and love in each other. They chose red and gold for their colour scheme, as both are prevalent in the two cultures.

  • Jewellery:

Beatriz’s wedding jewellery was an eclectic mix; her earrings were a gift from her mother, her crown was a gorgeous handmade piece by Connie Montana, and her necklace and bracelet were a gift from Ricky (according to tradition) that were bought from Say Bella.

  • Bridesmaids:

With five bridesmaids — all different sizes, tastes and skin colour — Beatriz struggled to find a suitable dress for everyone. In the end, they decided to create their own dresses and had a great time choosing fabrics and colours.

  • Flowergirl and Page Boy:

The flowergirl and page boy outfits were made by Beatriz’s mother; even the little basket for the flowers was homemade to fit the theme. The page boy matched the groomsmen with his gold tie and the flowergirl dress was white with a red sash to match the bridesmaids.

  • Groom:

Ricky couldn’t make up his mind between two suits — one that he’d bought from Myer and another he’d rented from Spurling Bridal and Formalwear, so decided to wear one at night and the other during the day.

  • Stationery & Bomboniere:

For bomboniere, the couple decided to combine their cultures and went with a bronze Peruvian plate that you can use to decorate a wall. The couple decorated the gifts with Chinese packaging: a ribbon that said “double happiness” and a fortune cookie wrapped in fabric with gold ribbon.

  • Cake:

The couple’s cake was made by Gabi of Love Cakes. On the day, they incorporated a special Peruvian custom in which the single ladies have a second opportunity to be the next in line for marriage (if you miss out on the bouquet toss). A bunch of ribbons protruded from one of the tiers; these ribbons are pulled by the single ladies and at the end of one of them there is a gold ring. The girl that gets the ring will be the next one to get married.

  • Flowers:

The couple chose two suppliers for the flowers: one for the bouquets and buttonholes and another for the reception flowers. Beatriz’s bouquet featured Phalaenopsis orchids with cream peonies, lemon David Austin roses, golden vanda clusters, calla lilies and Pieris. The bridesmaid bouquets featured peonies, calla lilies, roses and berries.

  • Guests:

There were 95 guests at the reception, including family from Peru, Hong Kong and Australia as well as close friends. Friends’ partners, kids and little nieces and nephews were also invited to ensure everyone had a great time and shared the couple’s special memories.

  • Photography:

Two photographers attended the wedding — Photography by Chris Ho and Muller and Vee Photography — to capture as much of the day as possible.
