Regional Victoria - Mornington Peninsula

Boasting some of the most spectacular and diverse wedding venues and photography locations Victoria has to offer, it’s no surprise the Mornington Peninsula is fast becoming one of the most popular wedding destinations outside Melbourne.

Mornington PeninsulaLocated an easy hour’s drive south-east of Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula is made up of the bustling townships of Frankston, Sorrento, Mornington, Rosebud, Arthurs Seat, Mount Eliza and Portsea. Whether you want a formal wedding or a more casual affair, the Mornington Peninsula has everything even the most discerning couples need to coordinate the wedding of their dreams.

As well as the spectacular scenery, the many talented wedding suppliers — from photographers to makeup artists — make the Peninsula as convenient as the city, while it still maintains a country-town feel. A simple beach ceremony and marquee reception, a church ceremony and sit-down dinner at an historic mansion, a garden ceremony and lunch at a winery — the possibilities are endless.

John Lim has lived and worked on the Mornington Peninsula for 10 years and has been a wedding photographer there for eight years. He says the Peninsula is a great place for a wedding because it has something for everyone. “From the wineries with fantastic views to the very elegant country homes and the beach venues, there’s something for every taste and budget,” he says.

According to John, spring and summer are the best times of year to get married on the Peninsula because the weather is ideal, however he advises to avoid school holidays, particularly January, as it can get very busy. “During peak season, you won’t get a wedding photo on the main beaches without people in the background,” he says. But there are a few secluded spots John takes his clients to, where you can get a clean shot and some privacy.

With its amazing scenery, the Mornington Peninsula draws many couples for the photographic opportunities alone. The bathing boxes and boatsheds at Mornington, the meandering vines of the wineries, the lush gardens of the elegant country houses are just some examples of what’s on offer. John Lim shares some of his favourites: “A photograph from the deck of a restaurant overlooking the lush green vineyards, or photographing a couple among the rows of vines, or even among wine barrels.”

It’s also the casual air of the Mornington Peninsula that makes it an ideal place for a wedding. You and your guests can unwind before the big day without getting caught up in pre-wedding stress. Spend a few days on the beach, get pampered in one of the many day spas, or take a stroll along the popular walking trails overlooking the sea.

John Lim can’t single out just one favourite thing about the Peninsula. “There are some fabulous vineyards, which are totally different to the country homes, which are different to the beach venues,” he says. “It’s a magical place.”
