How to have fun with your videographer

10 March 2011

With the digital age giving us endless possibilities, it’s high time we started getting creative with wedding videos. The first step is to make sure you get along well with your wedding videographer. If you get your wedding videographer right, the fun will follow. Chat with a few different prospective wedding videographers and ask to view examples of their work to get an idea of their style. The perfect match will give their professional suggestions, take time to explain things to you and, most importantly, listen to what you want.

Here are five tips on how to get creative with your wedding video.

Hire a Team — If you have it in your budget, hire a wedding videography team. This doesn’t mean you end up with multiple wedding videos; the experts will edit it into one eye-catching wedding video. The different angles will lessen the chances of missing a moment and the final product will be fun to watch!

Involve your Guests — For the most part, you want your video to be natural. But get your guests to leave a little message for you right to the camera; the merry well-wishes will have you smiling every time you watch it.

Request a Montage — Perhaps of everyone on the dance floor at the reception! Make sure you get your favourite song of the night to be the theme song for your video montage.

Add Writing — Add your comments on some of the images for a special touch. Use the words to comment on funny moments throughout the video. For example, when the camera cuts to Dad making your embarrassing speech, label it with something like, “Dad’s 15 minutes of fame”.

Be Creative — There are a lot of creative screen-changing techniques on offer. You can opt for a fade out, a freeze before a screen change and many others. Your videographer can take you through the options before he/she edits.

Remember, this is something you will have forever, so put effort into it. Make it fun and energetic so it represents the fabulous day you had.
