As important as your dress, hair and makeup are on your wedding day, the fragrance that you are wearing can be the final piece of the puzzle in making you feel like a princess. Smell is the scent most associated with memory, so having the perfect wedding fragrance is really important. However, with the abundance of fragrances that are on the market at the moment, how do you actually know which one is for you?

The trick is to find a fragrance that most represents your personality and the things you love! Here we have a handy guide to the five major fragrance groups for women.

Floral
Floral fragrances tend to be the most popular of all fragrance groups. For the ultimate girly girl, these scents are most associated with spring mornings and fresh flowers. With its distinctive feminine quality, floral scents tend to combine roses, gardenias, lilies and blossoms to bring together the scent of a gorgeous wedding bouquet. Once you have figured out the type of fragrance that most suits you, it’s time to go shopping! Understanding some basic rules will help you pick out the best possible scent for when you finally take those steps down the aisle.

• Choose a fragrance that YOU fall in love with, rather than one that somebody else loves. You need to be comfortable with what you are wearing, just as you felt when you found the perfect dress. If you feel confident in what you are wearing, that confidence will be evident to everybody else.

• When shopping, do not immediately judge a fragrance when it is first sprayed. Most perfumes change over the course of the day and it can take up to half an hour before the real scent is revealed. So spray the fragrance and go for a walk. If you still love it, go back and make your decision.
• Always spray a fragrance on your skin before buying. Each person’s skin reacts differently to each fragrance and just because something smells good on someone else, there’s no guarantee it will smell great on you.
• For maximum effect, the best places to spray perfume are on your wrists, neck and cleavage.
