Marta and Fabio: A European Union

Marta first met Fabio in Barcelona seven years ago, when they were both studying there under the Erasmus program. A few years later, the couple went on a motorbike trip around Europe for a month. On the last night of their trip in Taoromina, Italy, Fabio asked Marta to marry him.

The couple had their hearts set on a country-style wedding, something reminiscent of the place where Fabio grew up in Southern Italy. “We wanted something very casual, full of colour and, most of all, different to all traditional types of weddings. It was important to be a big summer party!” says Marta. After one year of planning, 100 close family members and friends gathered to celebrate the love shared between Marta and Fabio at the Interior of Portugal, Alto Alentejo.

Fabio had been living in Monte, Portugal, for a week leading up to the wedding to get Monte do Ramalho, the reception location, ready for Marta. On the morning of the wedding, the couple had a brunch and with the help of family and close friends, they were able to finish off the last-minute details for the ceremony and reception to be held later that day. “I remember the ceremony and the party as the two best moments of my life,” says Marta. “It’s a unique sensation to live this day with the person you choose to be your partner for life and to be among the people you love. You feel so loved and looked after.”

“It’s a very quick day! The most important thing is to relax and enjoy every little moment you live with your family and friend. It’s your day, your party and even if something doesn’t go the way you planned so carefully, by not being nervous, it will become another memory that you will laugh and even enjoy in the future” Marta recounted.

For the menu, Marta and Fabio wanted a fusion between Portuguese and Italian food.
Starter: Spinach ravioli with pomodoro sauce.
Fish meal: Codfish layers with turnip leaves and crusty wheat bread served with sauté potatoes.
Meat meal: Veal fillet in crout with sweet potato puree in a mushroom and Port wine bed.
Dessert: Panna cotta served with berries
